BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern Panthers’ woes continued on Sunday, falling to DePauw University 2-1 in overtime. The loss drops BSC to 1-11 on the year, while DePauw improves to 6-1-3.
BSC struck first; when Sean Head drove a hard shot right into the DePauw keeper and forced him back into the goal for the score. The goal came in the 71st-minute of the match. For the entire first half neither team was able to get much going on offense. The Tigers outshot BSC 24-13 on the day, but couldn’t connect on one until the 85th-minute. Brandon Wood got the tying goal off an assist from Kreigh Kamman to send the game into extra time.
The overtime didn’t take long. The Tigers’ Mike Harris crushed the Panthers’ hopes of a win in the second minute of the period for the golden goal. The ball kicked back into the box after BSC keeper Hal Halbert blocked a series of shots in quick succession. The ball from Harris proved one too many as the Tigers came away with the victory.
The Panthers will try again next Saturday when they will host the Majors of Millsaps College on October 11 at 4:00 p.m.
