Air Force wins Armed Forces Soccer Classic; Panthers fall to Navy, 1-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Air Force defeated Army, 2-1, and Navy defeated Birmingham-Southern, 1-0, today on the final day of the Armed Forces Soccer Classic at the BSC Soccer Park. With a 2-0 record, Air Force wins the Classic, followed by Army and Navy with 1-1 records and BSC at 0-2.

In the first game of the day, Air Force's Steve Noller scored unassisted at the 21:03 mark and the Falcons went up 2-0 in the 41st minute on a goal from Zach Brinlee, assisted by John Tilton and Josh Rhynard. Army put one on the board in the second half at the 52:32 mark when Peter Campbell found the back of the net after a rebounded save off a shot by Cole Dietz, but couldn't score again and Air Force clinched the victory.

Air Force's Jim Gullo played all 90 minutes in the net and picked up two saves, while A.J. Glubzinski recorded seven saves in 90 minutes.

In the second game of the day between Birmingham-Southern and Navy, the Midshipmen scored the only goal of the game at the 23:27 mark when Michael Porcelli drove in from the far left side to find BSC's net.

Nolan Grebb picked up the shutout for Navy, making one save. Senior Hal Halbert played the duration of the game for the Panthers and grabbed three saves.

BSC is on the road for its next two games, traveling to take on Colorado College this Friday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. CT, and Austin College, Sunday, Sept. 28, at noon.
