Men's Soccer loses hard-fought match to Oglethorpe, 2-1
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—In a hard-fought 90-minute battle on a cold night at BSC Soccer Park, the
Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Oglethorpe University, Friday evening.
It was Senior Night for the Panthers, as Shachar Hovan, Kenan LeParc, Carter McLean, Andrew Shelton, Andrew Stein, and Tim Tincher were honored in pregame festivities.
The Stormy Petrels move to 7-9-1 overall and 3-7 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 4-8-4 overall and 1-6-3 in the SCAC.
Oglethorpe scored both of its goals off free kicks, the first in the 59th minute by Ben Robertson. BSC tied it up about a minute later on a penalty kick by junior Tony Crocker, but the Petrels took the lead for good in the 67th minute with another free kick goal, this time from Aaron Walker.
The Panthers had plenty of chances down the stretch, but were unable to connect with the back of the net again. BSC out-shot OU, 15-11, led by freshman Brynjar Arnason with five shots and Crocker with four. Ben Robertson led Oglethorpe with six shots.
Vincent Kennedy recorded five saves in goal for OU, while freshman Alex Levinson made three saves for BSC.
