BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout of Millsaps College this evening at BSC Soccer Park.
BSC moves to 4-6-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the SCAC, while Millsaps falls to 3-11-1 overall and 0-7 in conference action.
Sophomore Nicholas Reitmeier scored first for the Panthers in the 20th minute off an assist from junior Sean Head. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of BSC until the 88th minute, when junior Garner Shivers scored, assisted by Reitmeier. The Panthers quickly scored again before the end of regulation as Head found the back of the goal off an assist from freshman Brynjar Arnason with 46 seconds left in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Shachar Hovan played all 90 minutes and recorded one save. Stephen Andrieu also played the entire game for Millsaps, recording seven saves. The Majors also had one team save.
BSC out-shot Millsaps 22-8, led by Shivers with six and Reitmeier with four shots. Taylor Harrison led the Majors with three shots.
The Panthers continue conference action on the road next weekend, traveling to face Hendrix College, Friday, and Rhodes College, Sunday.
