Goldfarb leads Maccabi USA Soccer Team to silver at Australia International Games
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern Head Men's Soccer Coach Preston Goldfarb and his daughter, Aly Goldfarb, traveled to Australia over the holiday break for the Maccabi Australia International Games, and came home with the silver medal.
Coach Goldfarb served as head coach for the Maccabi USA Open Men's Soccer Team, while Aly was team manager.
The team opened play with five straight wins defeating Australia Gold, 7-2, the Maccabi USA Youth Team, 2-0, Mexico, 10-0, Brazil, 2-1, and Australia Blue, 4-0, to wrap up pool play. The team advanced to the gold medal game, where they faced Brazil again and lost 3-0.
"I must say that the best team did not win gold," Coach Goldfarb said. "We won five, lost one, and tied zero, while Brazil won four, lost one (to us) and tied one. So, I still believe we were truly the best team in this tournament and this team was an incredible joy to not only coach but be with every day. I am very proud of them and they showed class in losing as they did in all our wins. This was a truly wonderful experience for me and Aly."
