Panthers close out home slate with exciting 3-2 win over Sewanee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Sewanee, Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-2 in the Panthers' home finale. BSC moves to 5-8-4 overall and 2-6-3 in the SCAC, while Sewanee falls to 4-11-3 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play.

Junior Sean Head got the scoring started in the fifth minute, assisted by freshman Brynjar Arnason, but Sewanee tied it up in the 23rd minute on a goal by Matt Lightfoot off a rebounded save.

Arnason found the back of the net in the 34th minute off a rebounded saved shot by senior Andrew Stein, putting BSC up 2-1, a lead they would keep for the remainder of the half.

Sophomore Jarred Brookins put the Panthers up 3-1 eight minutes into the second half, assisted by Head. The Tigers' Will Morgan cut the lead to 3-2 in the 63rd minute off a corner kick by Watson Hartsoe, but were unable to score again and BSC picked up the victory.

Senior Shachar Hovan played all 90 minutes in the net for the Panthers and recorded five saves, while Freddie Delchamps also played the entire game for the Tigers and made seven saves.

Arnason led BSC with five of the Panthers' 21 shots, and Lightfoot led Sewanee with two of its 10 shots.

The Panthers wrap up the season next weekend on the road, traveling to face Berry College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
