Men's Soccer plays to 2-2 draw with Austin College
SHERMAN, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play today against Austin College on the road, playing to a 2-2 tie against the 'Roos.
BSC moves to 3-2-2 on the season with the tie.
Junior Sean Head put the Panthers on the board first in the 31st minute off an assist from junior Michael Alfano. Austin tied it up in the 41st minute with a goal by Joey Alcocer, and the scored was tied at the half.
The Panthers scored their second goal two minutes into the second half on a goal by sophomore Nicholas Reitmeier, assisted by junior Garner Shivers. The 'Roos tied it up again in the 86th minute when Andy Johnson scored.
The score was still 2-2 at the end of regulation, and the teams played two scoreless overtime periods.
Senior goalkeeper Shachar Hovan started and played the first half, recording two saves. Freshman Alex Levinson came in for the remaining 65 minutes and recorded three saves. Shivers led the Panthers with six of their 19 shots.
The Panthers travel to Colorado Springs for their next game, facing Colorado College at noon on Sunday.
