Men's Soccer shuts out Greensboro College, 1-0

SEWANEE, Tenn.—The BSC men's soccer team defeated Greensboro College, 1-0, Saturday at Sewanee's Kyle Rote, Jr., Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn. The Panthers move to 2-1 on the season with the win.

The 1-0 victory was a hard-fought battle with a chance for Greensboro to equalize on a free kick with eight seconds left in the game. Senior Tyler Evans scored the only goal in the 15th minute of the first half. Freshman Tobias Winter began the march toward the goal with a flick to Evans, who took a shot from just inside the 18-yard box. The Greensboro goalkeeper made the initial save, but Evans punched in the rebound to record the game-winner.

The game was played in the midfield of both teams without many chances at goal. BSC outshot Greensboro 5 to 4 in shots on goal and 9 to 6 in total shots. The saves that the BSC defense did have to make were big ones. BSC sophomore goalkeeper Sveinbo Grimsson twice had to make one-on-one saves. The game ended with great excitement as the BSC goalkeeper challenged for a ball in the air near the top of the box and was called for a handball. With eight seconds left on the clock, Greensboro lined up for a direct kick. The chance deflated as the Greensboro player shot the ball wide and the time ticked down to zero.

"We didn't get the opportunities we wanted offensively, but we took care of the chance we had and played well defensively," BSC Head Coach Preston Goldfarb said.

BSC takes on Huntingdon College on Sunday on the second day of the Invitational.
