Panthers shut out Westminster, 1-0
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Under gray skies and constant rainfall, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team recorded its fourth win and fourth defensive shutout of the season, Sunday, with a 1-0 win against Westminster College in St. Louis.
The Panthers now stand at 4-2 on the season.
Senior Tyler Evans scored his second game-winning goal of the season in the 37th minute of the game. Senior Nicolas Reitmeier intercepted a distributed ball from the hands of the Westminster goalkeeper and quickly played the ball to freshman Tobias Winter, who played the ball across to Evans to finish the goal from 12 yards out.
Westminster out-shot BSC, 5-4, but shots-on-goal were even at two for each team. Sophomore goalkeeper Sveinbo Grimsson made two saves and handled several physical crosses to keep the ball out of the net.
For the year, Evans leads the Panthers with five goals, while Winter's assist was his second of the season.
The Panthers are back in action next Sunday, Sept. 25, hosting Berry College in BSC Soccer Park at 2 p.m.
