Panthers overcome Austin College, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern scored three unanswered goals to break a 1-1 tie and earn a 4-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Austin College, Sunday at BSC Soccer Park.

The win was the second straight for the Panthers, improving to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC. Austin dropped to 4-4-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Senior Tyler Evans gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute off a pass from sophomore Ingvi Georgsson before Austin College tied the game on a goal by Andy Johnson in the ninth minute.

Senior Garner Shivers scored on an assist from senior Sean Head in the 29th minute to give BSC a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The Panthers scored two goals in a span of 1:05 during the first 10 minutes of the second half to take command of the match. Freshman Emil Saevarsson gave BSC a 3-1 lead in the 54th minute on a feed from senior Nicolas Reitmeier, who also scored the final goal just over a minute later to give BSC its final margin of victory.

The Panthers, who were outshot 8-6 in the first half, turned the tables in the second half with an 11-3 edge in shots to finish with a 17-11 advantage overall.

Sophomore BSC starting goal keeper Sveinbo Grimsson and sophomore reserve Alex Levinson each had one save, while Gran Gosselin recorded three saves for the 'Roos.

The Panthers go on the road for a pair of SCAC contests next weekend, beginning with a 1 p.m. MT match against Colorado College on Friday.
