CONWAY, Ark.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team moved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC today with a 3-1 victory against Hendrix College on the road.
Senior Garner Shivers recorded his sixth goal of the season in the 10th minute of the game. Leading up to the goal, senior Nicolas Reitmeier passed the ball to senior Tyler Evans, who was making a diagonal run. Evans was able to play the ball with one touch to Shivers who was breaking into the box, received the ball on his right foot and finished the goal with a shot to the far post. The first half ended with BSC holding a 1-0 lead.
BSC struck again in the 55th minute, and this time Evans finished for his seventh goal of the season. Senior Sean Head served a perfectly timed ball through the Hendrix back line and Evans received the ball headed into the box and shot the ball far post past a rushing Hendrix goalkeeper. The shot pinged off the back post and buried itself into the back of the net.
Hendrix made things interesting in the 64th minute as a shot on goal slipped through untouched and made the score 2-1.
Panther freshman Tobias Winter put the nail in the coffin one minute later and recorded his fourth goal of the season. Leading up to the goal, Shivers pressured the Hendrix defense in the corner of the field and won the ball off the defender's foot. He then dribbled the ball toward the goal line towards the goal and served a ball across the goal to an onrushing Winter, who finished the ball hard into the goal.
For the day, shots on goal were close with Hendrix leading 9-8. BSC sophomore goalkeeper Sveinbo Grimsson played 66 minutes, making four saves, and sophomore Alex Levinson finished the game's final 24 minutes with three solid saves.
