MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Rhodes College, Sunday afternoon on the road in Memphis.
The loss takes the Panthers to 8-5 for the season and 4-2 in conference play.
Rhodes got on the board in the second minute of the game, and neither team had many other offensive chances for the rest of the half, sending the Lynx into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Rhodes scored quickly to open the second half, going up 2-0 in the 47th minute of the game (two minutes into the period). The Lynx extended the lead to 3-0 in the 77th minute before the Panthers got on the board less than two minutes later when senior Garner Shivers scored, assisted by a long punt from sophomore goalkeeper Sveinbo Grimsson. BSC had a goal called back a few minutes later on a close offside call.
Shots were nearly even with nine for Rhodes and eight for BSC, and five on-goal for each team.
Grimsson played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves.
The Panthers stay on the road next weekend as they travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe, Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern.
