Both Panther soccer teams earn NSCAA Team Academic Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's soccer teams have both been awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

Birmingham-Southern was one of only 155 schools in the entire nation (all divisions) to have both its men's and women's team earn the award.

A total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 571 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the 2010-11 school year to earn the honor.

Both the women's team, under the direction of Benji Walton, and the men's team, under the direction of Preston Goldfarb, posted a team GPA of 3.27 last year.

It was the fifth straight year that the women's team has earned the Team Academic Award, and the second straight year that both BSC teams received the award.
