Men's Soccer opens season at home this weekend in Jim 'n Nick's/PUMA Labor Day Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team will kick off the 2012 season at home this weekend, hosting the Jim 'n Nick's/PUMA Labor Day Classic, Friday and Sunday at BSC Soccer Park.

On Friday, Sewanee will face Blackburn College at 5 p.m. followed by a match-up between the Panthers and 21st-ranked Washington University (Mo.) at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Sewanee will take on Washington at noon and BSC will face Blackburn at 2:30 p.m.

BSC went 10-7 last season, and loses its top two goal scorers (Garner Shivers and Tyler Evans) to graduation, but return junior Tobias Winter, who scored four goals with two assists for 10 points last year. Senior Sveinbo Grimsson returns in goal after appearing in all 17 games last year (starting in 13) and recording 55 saves.
