Men's Soccer defeats Centre on the road, 2-1

DANVILLE, Ky.—Courtesy of two second-half goals, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Centre College on the road, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Danville, Ky.

The Panthers move to 5-4-2 overall and remain unbeaten in Southern Athletic Association action at 2-0-1. The Colonels fall to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAA.

Centre struck early in the match when Jacob Trumbull scored off an assist from Andy Karel in the seventh minute of play. The Colonels held the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the half and through the first 20 minutes of the second half before the Panthers tied it up with a goal by freshman Johannes Loeffler, assisted by sophomore Tobias Winter and junior Brynjar Arnason.

Winter scored what would turn out to be the game-winner 13 minutes later, assisted by sophomore Ryan Deveikis, putting BSC up 2-1. The Panther defense held off the Colonels for the remainder of the game to clinch the victory.

BSC recorded 13 shots to Centre's 11, led by junior Brooks Busby with four shots. Junior goalkeeper Alex Levinson played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves.

The Panthers return home this Wednesday for a non-conference date with Covenant College at 7 p.m. at BSC Soccer Park before continuing SAA play at home on Saturday against Hendrix at 6:30 p.m.
