Panthers tie with Hendrix at home, 1-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Two second-half goals - one from each team - led to a 1-1 tie between the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team and Hendrix College, Saturday evening at BSC Soccer Park.

The Panthers move to 5-4-4 overall and remain unbeaten in Southern Athletic Association play at 2-0-2, while the Warriors move to 8-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the SAA. Today marked BSC's fourth tie this season and sixth overtime game.

BSC scored first in the 57th minute when junior Cory Gonzalez pushed the ball past the keeper off a long pass from the right side from junior Tobias Winter.

Hendrix scored 10 minutes later when Kevin Gregory sent a free kick into the box where Jacob Pierce headed it in to tie it up 1-1.

Neither team would score again for the remainder of regulation or in either 10-minute overtime period.

BSC junior goalkeeper Alex Levinson played all 110 minutes, recording one save; Hendrix keeper Marco Luna made seven saves.

The Panthers out-shot the Warriors 22-16, 8-3 on-goal, led by freshman Haraldur Birgisson with six shots. Pierce led Hendrix with four shots.

BSC is at home for the remainder of the season. The Panthers take on Berry College Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m., and Oglethorpe Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2:30 p.m. for Homecoming weekend.
