BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team recorded its sixth tie of the season tonight in a 1-1 draw with Millsaps to wrap up the regular season.
The Panthers move to 6-4-6 overall and 3-0-4 in the Southern Athletic Association; the Majors move to 5-8-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the SAA. Tonight was BSC's eight overtime game this season.
BSC will host the inaugural SAA Men's Soccer Championship next weekend and play as the third seed on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Both of tonight's goals were scored in the second half, beginning with a score by Millsaps in the 48th minute by Trey Fontaine, assisted by Daniel Staursky. The Panthers answered six minutes later when junior Tobias Winter made a penalty kick after a handball inside the box was called.
The remainder of regulation as well as both overtimes went scoreless, although both teams had several chances to score. BSC recorded 19 shots to the Majors' 16, including nine on-goal, led by Winter and freshman Johannes Loeffler with four apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Sveinbo Grimsson played all 110 minutes and recorded six saves. Millsaps had 11 corner kicks to BSC's three.
