Six Panthers named to NSCAA Men's Soccer Scholar All-Region Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Six Birmingham-Southern men's soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men's College Division Scholar All-South Region Honorable Mention Team.

The honorees are junior Brooks Busby (Birmingham, Ala.), junior Jeremy Evans (Panama City, Fla.), senior Armann Gunnlaugsson (Husavik, Iceland), senior Nathan Haywood (Fairhope, Ala.), senior Emil Saevarsson (Akranes, Iceland), and junior Tobias Winter (Giessen, Germany).

Busby is a midfielder majoring in business with a 3.50 grade point average (GPA). He scored five goals this past season and was named Second-Team All-Southern Athletic Association.

Evans, a defender with a 3.97 GPA in biology, helped the Panthers to five shutouts this year.

Gunnlaugsson is a midfielder with a 3.66 GPA in business; he scored three goals and recorded three assists for nine points in 2012.

Haywood, a defender and chemistry major with a 4.0 GPA, had a goal and an assist this past season while anchoring the defense. He was also named Second-Team Capital One Academic All-America and second-team All-Conference.

Saevarsson is a defender with a 3.41 GPA majoring in business; he was second on the team with four assists this past season while helping the defense shut out five opponents.

Winter, a forward majoring in business with a 4.0 GPA, led the team this year with seven goals and five assists for 19 points. He was also named First-Team All-SAA.
