BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—For the first time at the Division III level, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team has entered the national rankings, coming in 22nd in this week's D3soccer.com coaches poll.
The Panthers, who are undefeated at 6-0, received 98 points in the poll, 22 points behind Hope College (4-1-1) and 10 points ahead of UW-Oshkosh (4-0-3). Messiah College (6-0) is ranked first in the nation, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (7-0) and Montclair State (6-0). BSC is the only Southern Athletic Association team ranked at this time, and is one of 17 teams in the Top 25 without any losses.
"While being listed in the Top 25 for the very first time in Division III is a nice tribute to our guys in this early part of the season, we still have a very long way to go to achieve our dream of doing the 'impossible in order to achieve the possible,'" Head Coach Preston Goldfarb said. "Polls are nice, especially for the first time in this Division, but continuing to believe as a mechanism for achieving the possible through tunnel vision focus, is more important."
The Panthers are on the road for their next four games before returning home to open SAA play on Saturday, Oct. 5, hosting Rhodes at 2 p.m. at BSC Soccer Park.
