BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The men's and women's soccer teams continued Southern Athletic Association play Friday evening, with both teams falling to Centre by the score of 1-0 at Preston Goldfarb Field.
The Panther men played first this evening and fell to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAA; the women dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the league with their loss.
In the men's game, the first half was scoreless for both teams. The only goal of the game was in the 55th minute when Centre's Tyler Daniels connected on an assist from Jack Goblirsch.
The Colonels (6-3-2, 1-1 SAA) led in shots, 14-7, and the only shot-on-goal for either team was Daniels' score. Senior Tobias Winter led BSC with four shots, and Goblirsch led Centre with five. Junior goalkeeper Jonas Heidrich played all 90 minutes in the net for the Panthers.
The BSC women played in the nightcap, and it was Senior Night for the Panthers. Richelle Byrd, Bailey Kimbell, Jamie Sullivan, M'Kayl Lewis, Kelly Craft, Hillary Dreyfus, Katie Hutchins, and Amanda Babbin were all honored during a pregame ceremony.
The game looked like it would be heading to overtime as the teams were both scoreless as the clock ticked down to end regulation. With 12 seconds left, Centre finally found the back of the net on a header by Morgan Collins off an assist from Tori Dillard.
The Colonels out-shot the Panthers 15-6, 9-1 on-goal, led by Collins and Alex Combs with four each. Craft led BSC with two shots. Centre also had 12 corner kicks to BSC's one. Byrd played the entire game in the net and recorded nine saves.
Both teams are back at home this Sunday, hosting Sewanee at Goldfarb Field. The men will kick off at noon, followed by the women at approximately 2:30 p.m.
