FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—Playing in the Soccer Kicks Cancer/MU Invitational, hosted by Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Averett University, 4-1, Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers move to 2-0-1 in their first game away from home, while Averett falls to 0-3.
BSC scored early with junior newcomer Bastian Jedliczka finding the back of the net in the fifth minute off an assist from sophomore Patrick Erickson. Jedliczka would score two more goals to complete the hat trick with his second goal in the 10th minute (assist by sophomore Spencer Nichols) and his third goal in the 24th minute off another assist from Erickson. Freshman Trey O'Bryant scored BSC's fourth goal in the 57th minute with an assist from fellow freshman Bryant Hamby. Averett scored a second-half goal in the 67th minute and the game finished with a 4-1 tally.
BSC takes on the host Monarchs tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern.
