Jedliczka named SAA Men's Soccer Player, Newcomer of the Year; eight Panthers earn All-Conference honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—In exclusive voting by the league's head coaches, Birmingham-Southern's Bastian Jedliczka has been named the Southern Athletic Association Men's Soccer Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year, it was announced today. Additionally, eight Panthers, including Jedliczka, were named to the All-Conference teams.

Centre's Jeremy Carlson won Defensive Player of the Year and Berry head coach Richard Vardy collected the Coach of the Year award.

Jedliczka, a junior forward from Fuerstenfeld, Austria, took the league by storm in his inaugural campaign to capture both the Offensive and Newcomer of the Year awards. He was the key instrument in Birmingham-Southern putting together an outstanding 13-4-1 season, leading the league in both goals (17) and points (40). Additionally, Jedliczka finished third in assists (6) and tops in shots (82) while also displaying a flair for the dramatic with six game-winning goals on the season.

Jedliczka was joined on the All-SAA First Team by senior goalkeeper Jonas Heidrich and junior midfielder Claudio Lipp. Heidrich was third in the SAA with a 1.03 goals against average and an .802 save percentage. He was second with 10 wins and seventh with 65 saves. Heidrich and the BSC defense combined to shut out five opponents while allowing 18 goals in as many games. Lipp ranked second in the league with seven assists and recorded 15 points with two game-winning goals this past season.

Earning Second-Team honors were junior defender Patrick Fox, sophomore defender Josh Wild, and sophomore midfielder Dominik Faber. Sophomore defender Dallas Coyne and sophomore midfielder Johan Eriksson received Honorable Mention nods.
