Men's Soccer opens 2015 season on the road against Huntingdon

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team opens its 2015 season on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Montgomery to face Huntingdon College at 7:30 p.m.

THE TEAMS

  • BSC had a strong showing in 2014, going 13-4-1 with a 5-2 mark in the Southern Athletic Association; the Panthers lost to Berry College in the title game of the SAA Championship.
  • The Hawks went 2-10-5 last season, and 1-6-3 in the USA South Conference.

THE COACHES

  • Preston Goldfarb is in his 33rd and final season at the helm of the men's soccer program; he owns a 352-245-50 career record.
  • Matt Cooper begins his first season as head coach for the Hawks; he spent the past nine seasons as an Assistant Coach at Hampden-Sydney College.

THE SERIES

  • BSC leads the series 3-0-1; the teams tied 1-1 last season.

DEFENSIVE EXPERIENCE TO ANCHOR 2015 PANTHERS

  • The Panthers are a young team overall, but the back line returns all four starters from 2014: senior Patrick Fox, junior Josh Wild, junior Dallas Coyne, and junior Luke Etheridge.
  • BSC features eight new faces on the field this season.
