Men's Soccer downs Huntingdon 2-1 in season opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team picked up a win on the road Tuesday to open the season, defeating Huntingdon 2-1 in Montgomery, Ala.

TWO FIRST-HALF GOALS

  • The Panthers scored both of their goals in the first half.
  • Senior Scott Funston was the first to score, finding the net in the ninth minute.
  • The Hawks tied things up two minutes later, and the teams played with a 1-1 tie until the 40th minute, when junior Dallas Coyne scored what would be the game-winner for BSC.

THE SERIES

  • BSC leads the series 4-0-1; the teams tied 1-1 in 2014.

QUOTABLE

  • "I'm extremely proud of the way the starting team honored our program with their hard work and dedication, which enabled us to get a good opening game win," Head Coach Preston Goldfarb said.
