BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Courtesy of an unassisted goal off a free kick by junior Dallas Coyne in the 102nd minute, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Wilmington College, 1-0, Friday evening in the PUMA Labor Day Classic on Preston Goldfarb Field at Berylson Park.

The Panthers move to 2-0, while the Quakers fall to 1-1. In earlier action today, Millsaps defeated Louisiana College 5-0.

  • After 101 minutes of scoreless play, in the second overtime period, Wilmington fouled BSC outside the box to set up the free kick. Coyne took the shot from 25 yards out, clearing the near post and sailing past the Wilmington keeper's left side.
  • The defense for both teams was strong throughout the game. Wilmington out-shot BSC 15-12 overall, with freshman BSC keeper Galen Curry making five saves and the team being credited with one team save. The Panthers put one shot on goal before the game-winner in overtime.

  • "It was a hard-fought game by both teams," Head Coach Preston Goldfarb said. "We hung in there and finished it."

  • The teams return to action on Sunday for two more games of the Labor Day Classic. Wilmington faces Millsaps at 11 a.m. followed by BSC vs. Louisiana College at 1:30 p.m.
