BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Covenant College 2-1 Tuesday night in overtime on Goldfarb Field. Conner Quiggle (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS) scored the game winner two minutes into extra minutes. BSC improved to 7-1 overall with the win.
The Panthers outshot Covenant 7-5 in the first half, but the score was tied at zero at the break.
Covenant scored the first goal in the 65th. Birmingham-Southern responded quickly. Spencer Nichols (Jacksonville, Fla./Christ's Church Academy) headed in a free kick by Dylan Rose (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood HS) 30 seconds after the Scots got on the board.
The score remained tied at the end of regulation, sending the match into sudden death overtime. In the 92nd minute, Quiggle took a touch from Trey O'Bryant (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Northridge HS)past the keeper for the win. It marked his first game winner of the season.
The Panthers hit the road for their next contest, taking on Rhodes College Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
