DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team fell 4-1 on the road at Centre College in the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament. The Panthers close the 2016 season with a 9-6-1 overall record.
Centre (12-5) scored three first half goals that the Panthers could not find an answer for.
Galen Curry (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) and the Panthers defense saw 20 shots from Centre, with eight on goal. Curry finished with four saves.
BSC completed the regular season with a 3-3-1 conference record in the first year for Head Coach Greg Vinson. They started the year outscoring opponents 27-3 at home and finished September with a 7-1 record. They only lost one conference match at home this season and handed regular season league champion Oglethorpe University its first non-win of the year.
The Panthers will graduate 11 from this roster. They were led individually by senior Dallas Coyne (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) who finished with a team-high nine goals and 19 points. Fellow senior Dylan Rose (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood HS) was second on the team in points (10) from four goals and two assists. Junior Trey O'Bryant (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Northridge HS) led the team in assists.
Curry became the Panthers primary keeper during the season, appearing in eight matches with seven starts. The sophomore finished with team-bests of 33 saves and a .786 save percentage, earning a 4-1-1 record including two shutouts.
