BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Millsaps College 6-0 on Saturday night, improving to 10-4-2 and 4-2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Hernandez opened up the scoring in the 18th minute with an assist from Ryo Elliott (Handa-shi, Japan/Kubasaki HS). His second goal would come early in the second half in the 52nd minute.
Lynn put BSC up 2-0 a minute later with help from senior Brother Swagler (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS). He picked up his second goal of the night right after the halftime break, scoring a 47th-minute goal with an assist from sophomore Brady Brannon (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS).
Lynn would add an assist to the box score, while Swagler finished the night with two assists.
Feringa's goal gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead before halftime, while Sturm's goal capped the scoring, giving BSC the final 6-0 win.
Birmingham-Southern outshot Millsaps 21-9 in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Galen Curry (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) started the game, recording three saves. Fellow senior keeper William Meehan (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) came in in the second half and had one save.
Saturday night was homecoming and also Senior Day for the Panthers. During the announcing of the starting lineups, five seniors were recognized for their commitment and dedication to the BSC men's soccer program: Galen Curry, Brett Feringa, Brother Swagler, Luke Hambleton (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS) and William Meehan.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern earns the fourth seed in the SAA tournament and will host the No. 5 seed Berry College on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Panthers next home game, however, will be their regular season finale against Talladega College on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
