Men's Tennis opens 2009 season with 8-1 win over Huntingdon
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sweeping all six singles wins and two of the three doubles wins, the Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team opened the 2009 season with an 8-1 victory over Huntingdon College, Saturday, at the BSC Tennis Complex.
At the number one singles spot, #Michael Locandro# defeated Glenn Rudolph, 6-2, 6-2, while #John Crawford Freeman# won at the two spot, 6-0, 6-0, against B.J. Foroughian. At the third slot, #Faris Pacha# defeated Kent Hagan, 6-1, 6-2, and #Richard Pearlman# beat Jonathan Hibbert, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, in the fourth spot. At number five, #John Zukley# defeated Zach Molin, 6-4, 6-1, and at six, #Will Boucek# defeated Dalton Allen, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Locandro and Freeman lost at the top spot to Rudolph and Foroughian, 9-7, Freeman and Zukley beat Hagan and Hibbert, 9-7, at two, and Pacha and #Clayton Simons# won at the third spot, 8-3, over Molin and Allen.
The Panthers are on the road next weekend, traveling to Conway, Ark., to face Harding and Hendrix, Friday and Saturday.
