BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis program has received a commitment from Tony Damaia, who has completed his intent to enroll in the college and play for the Panthers as a freshman beginning this fall.
Damaia is a 6’1” player out of Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla. He served as team captain his junior and senior seasons playing for coach Holly Moore. Damaia is currently undefeated this season in both singles and doubles.
Damaia is also an International Baccalaureate student and holds a 4.1 GPA. He is a four-year Athletic Scholar Award recipient and has served as a court advocate for Sarasota County’s Teen Court for three years. Damaia also volunteers for tennis camps for children and is head instructor for children’s tennis summer camps at Misty Creek Country Club.
“Tony will be a great addition to our team and the school next season, both on the court and in the classroom,” head coach Paul Rosner said. “He is an exciting player and will be a great asset to our team’s chemistry and level of competition, and I look for him to make an immediate impact.”
