Men's Tennis defeats Huntingdon, 5-4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With the match coming down to the third set at four singles, Birmingham-Southern defeated in-state rival Huntingdon, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at the Ann Dielen Tennis Complex in Birmingham, Ala.

BSC opens the season at 1-0, while the Hawks fall to 0-2.

After falling behind 2-1 after doubles play, the match became tied at 4-4 and was determined by four singles, where BSC senior Ben Reardon gutted out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win to clinch the match for the Panthers, 5-4.

Sophomore Alex Makarenko won at one singles, while freshman Jacob Weinacker won at three singles and freshman Lee Thompson won at six singles. Makarenko and junior Patrick Hire also combined at one doubles for a 9-8 win.

The Panthers travel to Atlanta tomorrow to face Methodist University, hosted by Oglethorpe, at noon ET.
