CONWAY, Ark.—Both Birmingham-Southern tennis teams picked up conference wins on the road today, defeating Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.
The women won by the score of 7-2, moving to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the men won 9-0 to move to 8-2 overall and also 2-2 in the SAA.
In the women's game, BSC went 2-1 in doubles, with junior Sara Cohen and freshman Carlee Petrowinning in the number one spot, 8-4, and sophomore Mary Evelyn Carroll and freshman Virginia Hammond winning in the third spot, also 8-4. The Panthers went on to win at one through five singles, with victories by Petro at one, Cohen at two, freshman Katie Scherer at three, Carroll at four, and Hammond at five.
In the men's match, the Panthers won 9-0, with junior Patrick Hire and sophomore Alex Makarenko winning at one doubles, 8-3, senior Ben Reardon and freshman Jacob Weinacker winning at two doubles, 8-5, and sophomore Henry Crosby and freshman George Chunn winning at three doubles, 8-5. Makarenko won at one singles in three sets, followed by wins by Hire, Weinacker, Reardon, Chunn, and freshman Lee Thompson to round out the singles results.
The teams are back in action tomorrow in Memphis, with the men facing Rhodes at 9 a.m. and the women at noon.
