Men's Tennis picks up 7-2 win against Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team wrapped up a 2-0 weekend on Sunday, defeating regionally-ranked Rhodes 7-2 in Memphis.

The Panthers moved to 9-2 overall and are also now 3-2 in Southern Athletic Association action.

BSC led 2-1 after doubles competition against the Lynx, who are ranked 11th in the Atlantic South region. At one doubles, junior Patrick Hire and sophomore Alex Makarenko dropped a tough 8-6 decision, but senior Ben Reardon and freshman Jacob Weinacker paired at two doubles to win 8-3, and sophomore David Goodloe and freshman Charlie Rowe won at three doubles, 8-4.

In singles, Makaranko, Hire, and Weinacker won at the first three spots, while Rhodes won its second point of the day at four singles. Freshman George Chunn and Lee Thompson rounded out singles play with wins at five and six.

The Panthers are at home next weekend hosting conference matches against Centre, Saturday, and Sewanee, Sunday.
