Men's Tennis defeats Berry in SAA quarterfinals, 5-2

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2015 Southern Athletic Association Championship with a 5-2 win against Berry College this morning at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The third-seeded Panthers moved to 11-2 on the season, while the sixth-seeded Vikings fell to 9-5 to end their season.

The men won a thriller at one doubles, with junior Patrick Hire and sophomore Alex Makarenko winning 9-8 (7). Senior Ben Reardon and freshman Jacob Weinacker won 8-6 at two doubles, but sophomore David Goodloe and freshman Charlie Rowe lost 9-8 (4) in the third spot. In singles play, Hire, Weinacker, and freshman Lee Thompson were victorious to clinch the match at 5-2.

BSC will face second seed Millsaps in the semifinals tomorrow at 9 a.m.
