Panthers down Covenant on the road, 8-1

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team moved to 3-0 on Saturday with an 8-1 victory against Covenant College on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • BSC took all three doubles points, with senior Patrick Hire and Alex Makarenko winning a close one at the top position, 9-8, sophomore Jacob Weinacker and freshman Anthony Pellegrini winning 8-2 at two doubles, and juniors Henry Crosby and David Goodloe winning at three doubles, 8-3.
  • Makarenko fell at one singles, 4-6, 7-6, 10-6, but that was the Scots' only point of the match.
  • Weinacker won at two singles, Hire at three, Pellegrini at four, sophomore Lee Thompson at five, and sophomore Charlie Rowe at six, all in two sets.

  • The Panthers are back in action in two weeks, traveling to West Point, Ga., to face Point University on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. ET.
