Men's Tennis falls to Point, 5-4

VALLEY, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team lost a close 5-4 match Saturday afternoon to Point University.

BSC falls to 3-1 on the season and will play Samford this Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Point took two of the three doubles matches, with BSC's No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Jacob Weinacker/freshman Anthony Pellegrini taking the only win at 9-8.

The Skyhawks struck first in singles, with No. 1 Assad Syyid defeating junior Alex Makarenko 6-2, 6-2. Weinacker secured the first singles point at No. 3, beating Austin Atel 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Charlie Rowe lost at No. 6, while sophomore Lee Thompson won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 5 to cut the match score to 4-3. Point's Daniel Blanchard defeated Pellegrini 6-1, 7-6 at No. 4 to clinch the match for point.

Senior Patrick Hire finished the scoring with a three-hour 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position.
