  • Winter And Spring All-Academic Honor Roll Announced
    June 30, 2017
    ATLANTA – The SAA announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll today for the 2017 spring term and a total of 1,033 student-athletes made the list. To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alex Makarenko (Sewanee, GA/ Peach Tree Ridge High School) is a recent graduate of Birmingham-Southern College. He played on the men’s tennis team all four of his years on the Hilltop and is a three-time Southern Athletic Association All-Conference selection.

  • Panthers Named to SAA All-Sportsmanship Teams

    ATLANTA – The Southern Athletic Association announced the 2017 Spring Sports All-Sportsmanship Teams and 79 student-athletes among the league’s eight full-time members received recognition. Formed in 2011, the SAA places a special emphasis on good sportsmanship and fair play among all competitors.

  • Weinacker Named First-Team All-Conference

    ATLANTA – The SAA announced the 2017 Men's Tennis All-Conference award winners on Thursday and Millsaps' Diego Marti-Vertiz captured the top honor of Player of the Year. The Newcomer of the Year went to Ricky Chatterjee of Rhodes and Millsaps' head coach Jason Box was declared Coach of the Year by his peers.

    NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team could not upset top seeded Sewanee Saturday, and fell 5-0 in the Southern Athletic Association tournament semifinals.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team’s quarterfinal match against Oglethorpe University in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Friday came down to the third set of #6 singles, as the Panthers battled to a 5-4 victory. BSC (9-6) advances to the semifinals against regular season champion Sewanee Saturday morning with the win.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s tennis teams are traveling to the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Tournament this weekend. The Panthers are looking for redemption as both fell in the championship game to top seeded Sewanee last year. The tournament runs Friday, April 29-May 1 at Burns Park in Conway, Ark.

    ATLANTA - The SAA announced the men's and women's tennis Players of the Week for matches played April 10 -16 and, after voting by the league head coaches, Alex Makarenko of Birmingham-Southern cliamed Men's Tennis Player of the Week while Oglethorpe's Taylor Cranford captured Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

    ATLANTA, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team topped Oglethorpe University 7-2 Saturday morning as the Panthers improved to 7-7 overall and 3-4 against Southern Athletic Association opponents. The win secured a No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team defeated Point University 6-3 Sunday afternoon in their first match in over two weeks. The Panthers swept doubles play en route to their third win this season. BSC is now 3-3 overall as a team.

    ATLANTA – The SAA released the first men's tennis Player of the Week for the spring season and, following voting by the league head coaches, Jacob Weinacker (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) of Birmingham-Southern won the honor after getting off to a torrid start this season.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team opened its home season with an 8-1 win over Covenant College Saturday afternoon on the Ann Dielen Tennis Complex. The Panthers move to 2-1 overall with the win.

    SEGUIN, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s tennis teams split their first two days of spring competition in Texas. BSC fell 9-0 to nationally ranked Trinity University and then defeated Texas Lutheran 7-2.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Both the Birmingham-Southern College men’s and women’s tennis teams closed out a competitive fall season by receiving national recognition. The women rank 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region, while the men are ranked 13th.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern College Hall of Fame class of 2016 was inducted Friday night. Frank “Buddy” Cairns (deceased), Rachel Malmborg Skweres, Joe Nasco, John Quinn, and Joe Thigpen join the long list of Panthers immortalized in the hall.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team completed competition at the Fall Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships this weekend with Alex Makarenko (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge HS) winning his singles consolation bracket. The Panthers collected seven singles and three doubles wins over the weekend.

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s tennis team opened play Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships hosted by Sewanee. The Panthers had a number of individuals compete and their doubles teams advanced in their respective brackets.
