Panthers Defeat Berry 6-3, Move to 6-5 Overall

ROME, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team improved to 1-1 in Southern Athletic Association play with its 6-3 win over Berry College Sunday.  BSC is now 6-5 overall.

The Panthers swept doubles play.  Anthony Pellegrini (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS), Ethan Gibson (Huntsville, Ala./Covenant Christian), and Anthony Romano (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb HS) went undefeated on the day.  Pellegrini and partner Jameson Bekaert (Johns Creek, Ga./Rivers Academy) won No. 1 doubles 8-2 before he went on to defeat his No. 1 singles opponent 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (8).

Gibson was partnered with Alex Wisener (Horton, Ala./Douglas HS) at No. 2 doubles for their 8-6 win.  He had to come from behind to win his No. 4 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.  And after winning at No. 3 doubles with Connor Galvez (Nashville, Tenn./Ensworth HS), Romano dominated in the No. 5 singles spot, winning 6-3, 6-4.

BSC stays on the road for its next matchup.  The Panthers take on Rhodes College Saturday, April 6 and then take on Hendrix College on Sunday.  Both matches begin at 9 a.m.
