SAA Tournament: Panthers Fall to Oglethorpe, 5-3

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team came ready to fight at the 2019 Southern Athletic Association tournament.  The Panthers picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but eventually fell 5-3 to regionally ranked Oglethorpe University in the quarterfinals.  BSC finished its season 7-9 overall.

Jameson Bekaert (Johns Creek, Ga./Rivers Academy) went undefeated in the match. He and partner Isaac Eck (Boca Raton, Fla./Home Schooled) took No. 1 doubles 8-4 before he went on to win No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4.  Bekaert was named to the all-tournament team for his performance.

Anthony Pellegrini (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) and Alex Wisener (Horton, Ala./Douglas HS) picked up the Panthers other win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.  Pellegrini was battling tough against regionally ranked singles player Walker Benson, winning the first set, before play was suspended.
