Kel Lange is in his first season as head coach of the Birmingham-Southern comes to the Hilltop with an extensive coaching background in the SEC and Big 12.
A native of Lexington, Ky., Lange spent four years as the Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Kentucky, where they reached the NCAA Elite Eight. He left the Bluegrass to become the Head Women’s Coach at Mississippi State University, where he spent the next four years returning the Bulldogs to respectability.
Lange and his wife Tracy then moved to College Station, Texas, where he was the Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach at Texas A&M University. In their first season they were recognized as having the Number one recruiting class in the country and returned the Aggies to a Top 20 National Ranking.
His experience also includes working with Professional Players, including French Open Doubles Champions Luke and Murphy Jensen, and Junior Player Development. Lange has been Director of Tennis at Little Rock Racquet Club, in Little Rock, Ark., and Director of Tennis at The Knoxville Racquet Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Kel has been married to his wife Tracy Stewart Lange, the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., for 16 years. They have a daughter, Hope, who is 12 years old and a son, Wes, who is nine years old.
