BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The 2011 Birmingham-Southern cross country teams open the 2011 season tomorrow at the Fleet Feet Sports/Jacoby Memorial Invitational in Huntsville, Ala., hosted by UAH.
The Panthers will then be on the road for the next two consecutive weekends before returning to Birmingham to compete in the Southeast Cross Country Showdown at Veterans Park, followed by another in-state race hosted by UAH which will serve as a tune-up before the SCAC Championships.
This season marks the first year of SCAC and NCAA Division III post-season competition, and the team has gotten off to a great start of training and working towards being ready for post season berths, head coach Kenneth Cox reported this week.
"Our entire cross country program and athletic department are excited about the amazing opportunity that we have to compete and continue our positive growth here at Birmingham-Southern," Cox said. "We will get great competitive experience before we head into the championship portion of the season."
The SCAC Cross Country Championships will be held at Sewanee-The University of the South on Oct. 29, and the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will be held in Seguin, Texas, on November 12.
