Willett, BSC men win Tiger Twilight Cross Country Invitational
SEWANEE, Tenn.—Senior Robert Willett won the men's individual title and helped the Birmingham-Southern men's cross country team win the Tiger Twilight Invitational, Friday evening in Sewanee, Tenn. On the women's side, freshman Kelsey Holdbrooks finished third in helping the Panthers to a second-place team finish.
Willett ran the 7.2k course in 23:52.64, finishing a full 12 seconds ahead of Sewanee's Hudson Robb. BSC runners also placed fifth (freshman Scott Wheat with a time of 25:22.04), sixth (junior Christian Clesi with a time of 25:34.08), seventh (sophomore Scotty Wild with a time of 25:51.56), and eighth (freshman John White with a time of 25:52.94). Freshman Jordan McKnight also placed 15th with a time of 26:25.09 to round out the field of Panther runners.
As a team, the BSC men finished first ahead of host Sewanee, Berry, and Oglethorpe.
For the women, Holdbrooks ran the 5K course in 19:57.67, followed by freshman Katie Ann Bass at sixth with a time of 20:28.93, sophomore Victoria Ports at 10th with a time of 21:12.76, sophomore Hallie Jordan at 19th with a time of 22:29.99, and senior Alexa Ruiz at 33rd with a time of 27:37.47.
As a team, the Panther women were second behind Sewanee and ahead of Berry.
"Our men and women performed outstanding today and I am proud of how we raced together," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "We continue to push ourselves daily and get better. We had several team members in the top 10 finishers and they deserve it after the hard work they continue to give each week."
BSC is back in action next weekend at the Berry Viking Open in Rome, Ga.
