BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern cross country teams will get a chance to stay close to home for a meet this season, as they host the 2013 Panther Cross Country Invitational, Friday, Oct. 4 at Veteran's Park in Hoover, Ala.
The women's 5K race will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 4:15 p.m. There will also be a Open/Master's/Youth 5K and two-mile race at 5 p.m.
"We are excited to be hosting the Panther Invitational at Veteran's Park," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "This meet will allow our athletes to compete here in Birmingham in front of our campus community, which has always been a great supporter of our program.
"This season we welcome 10 new members to our mens and women's cross country teams, and we are excited about our continued growth," Cox continued. "We will also be hosting the 2014 SAA Cross Country Championships next year and this will give us the chance to put together a meet that will mirror the course that we hope to put together for that upcoming championship event."
The BSC cross country teams open the 2013 season on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Sewanee Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn.
