Panthers split with No. 3 Louisiana College

PINEVILLE, La. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team split today on the road against No. 3 Louisiana College, falling 8-0 in game one but winning game two, 6-1, to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season. BSC moves to 12-2 on the year.
In game one, LC scored three runs in the bottom of the third, three in the fourth, and two in the sixth to end the game early with an 8-0 victory. Junior #Tori Harris# took the loss in the circle after giving up nine hits and three earned runs with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.
In the second game, neither team scored until the fourth, when freshman #Ashley Bice# got BSC on the board with a three-run home run, and Harris and senior #Erin Glover# hit RBI singles to put the Panthers up 5-0. BSC added one more in the fifth on an RBI double from freshman #Ronni Ferris# to go up 6-0. LC was able to break up the shutout in the sixth with a single run, but the Panthers held on for the 6-1 win.
Senior #Melissa Muehlenfeld# pitched all seven innings and gave up five hits with eight strikeouts to move to 6-1 on the season.
BSC is still out-scoring its opponents 95-26, and out-hitting them 135-56. The Panther pitching staff has been impressive, giving up only 56 hits in 82 innings for a 1.28 ERA.
The Panthers are at home for their next games, facing Sewanee next Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
