ATLANTA – Courtesy of three RBIs from senior Jena Franks, the Birmingham-Southern softball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 win against Emory, Sunday morning in Atlanta.
BSC put two of its runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Ronni Ferris singled to center field, and freshman Allison Reynolds walked. With two outs on the board, Franks stepped up and hit a two-run triple to put the Panthers up 2-0.
In the top of the third, Ferris singled again to get on base and advanced to second on a ground-out by sophomore Ashley Bice. With two outs, Franks singled to center field, allowing Ferris to score and put BSC up 3-0.
Ferris threw all seven innings to pick up the win, giving up four hits and striking out a career-high 12 batters in the shutout. Ferris was also 3-of-4 at the plate, and Franks was 2-of-2.
The Panthers are at home in two weeks for the Panther Classic, taking on Huntingdon and Berry, Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 and 4 p.m., and then facing Huntingdon again on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m.
