Softball picked to finish second in SCAC East Division

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Based on exclusive voting by the head softball coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Birmingham-Southern was picked to finish second in the Eastern Division in the 2011 Preseason Softball Poll, released today by the league office.

DePauw University edged out Southwestern University by a single vote as the team to beat in the race for the 2011 conference softball title. Click here to view the full release at the SCAC web site.

The Panthers went 25-9 last season and 12-4 against conference opponents. BSC returns nine players from last year's team, but is now under the direction of first-year head coach Kimball Cassady, who served as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern from 2002-2004 under head coach Tyra Perry.

BSC opens the 2011 season at home on Feb. 19 against Wesleyan College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
