Softball falls to Greensboro College, Emory on day two of BSC Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team lost both of its games today on the final day of the BSC Invitational, falling to Greensboro College, 2-1, in eight innings, and Emory University, 1-0.
The Panthers fall to 1-3 on the season with the losses.
Emory also defeated GC in the first game of the day this morning, 4-2. The Eagles won the Invitational with a record of 4-0.
In BSC's game against Greensboro, the Pride put its first run on the board in the top of the second on an RBI single by Sarah Bell. The Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on an error, and GC broke the tie in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly-out by Brittany Parsons. BSC was unable to score in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Pride the win.
The Panthers tallied three hits, two of them from junior Ronni Ferris and the other from sophomore Danielle Rucker. Ferris also threw all seven innings, giving up five hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts.
In the final game against Emory, both teams remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Jessica Thomas hit a home run with two outs on the board to put the Eagles up 1-0. Neither team would score again after that, giving Emory the victory.
Sophomore Brittany Berkopec led the Panthers with two of their four hits; Ferris and junior Ashley Bice recorded the other two. Junior Beth Lefler went the distance in the circle, allowing four hits with two strikeouts.
The Panthers are at home again this Friday, taking on in-state rival Huntingdon in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
