BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team dropped two games today at home, losing to Huntingdon, 2-1 and 4-0. The Panthers fall to 1-5, while the Hawks move to 6-4.
In the first game, the Panthers scored their first and only run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by senior Melissa Revis. The Hawks responded with the tying run in the top of the third, and the score remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the sixth, when Huntingdon scored on a fielder's choice RBI to go up 2-1. BSC was unable to score again, giving the Hawks the win.
Junior Ronni Ferris took the loss in the circle and throwing all seven innings and giving up nine hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts. Melissa McClure was the winning pitcher with four hits and five strikeouts in seven innings.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Hawks scored a single run in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the sixth, all while holding the Panthers scoreless. Bree Giordana picked up the win after going seven innings with four hits and six strikeouts, and she also led the Hawks at the plate, going 3-of-4.
Junior Beth Lefler took the loss for the Panthers after allowing nine hits with one strikeout in seven innings.
The Panthers are at home again on Sunday, facing Berry College at 1 p.m. and Millsaps College at 5 p.m.
