Panthers get doubleheader shutout of Wesleyan College

The Birmingham-Southern softball team picked up two big wins this weekend, shutting out Wesleyan College 23-0 and 22-0, both in five innings, in Macon, Ga. The Panthers now stand at 5-5 on the season.

In game one, sophomore Brittany Berkopec led BSC at the plate, going 5-of-6, and junior Ashley Bice, who was 3-of-4, led with five RBI. Overall the Panthers were 19-of-39. Junior pitcher Ronni Ferris (3-3) picked up the win and shutout, allowing only one hit with 11 strikeouts.

In the second game, Berkopec was 4-of-5 and senior Melissa Revis was 4-of-4 with four RBI. Junior Beth Lefler was 3-of-4 and led with five RBI. The Panthers were 18-of-37 at the plate. Lefler (2-2) also threw all five innings and gave up only two hits with nine strikeouts.

BSC travels to face Covenant College this Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
