Panthers hang on to defeat Case Western, 4-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Senior pitcher Ronni Ferris got the win and freshman Bethany Fronk picked up her first career save on Sunday as the Birmingham-Southern softball team defeated Case Western Reserve, 4-3, in the BSC Invitational.

The Panthers now stand at 5-0 on the year.

BSC got on the board early with a three-RBI home run from freshman Erin Lopez in the bottom of the first. An RBI double by Fronk in the bottom of the third put the Panthers up 4-0.

Case rallied in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs, but BSC held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Seven different Panthers recorded single hits in the game; Case recorded eight total hits.

Ferris started in the circle, giving up seven hits and three runs with two strikeouts in four innings of work. Fronk pitched three innings and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.

The Panthers are on the road next weekend, traveling to face LaGrange College in LaGrange, Ga., Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m. ET.
